The Mask »

Mirror, mirror facing me,
Yet in the mirror a mask I see.
A Halloween mask upon my face,
Which is entirely out of place,
For I am not wearing one.

Shift the mirror to the right
And now behold a stranger sight,
For now the mask has taken place
Upon another person's face
A strangeness which delights me none.

The person standing next to me
Has not a mask on either, you see
But reflected in the mirror clear
Is not a face which I hold dear
But rather a terrible foe, it seems.

What means this all, you may well ask.
Understanding is not an easy task.
What does the mask seems to show?
Something hidden deep below?
Or naught but a meaningless dream?
